Today’s episode is a short devotion about the Power of God.

Today’s title comes from a verse in the book of Romans…

Romans 13:1  Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God:

Just think about that for a second. The Bible says “There is NO power but of God”. That little phrase says so much! There is NO power except of God. God has ALL the Power. God holds all power.

This is so amazing! God, our God, the one that loves us so much has ALL POWER!

Let’s consider God’s power for a few minutes…

God has the power to make things happen just by speaking.

Let’s go all the way back to Genesis… Genesis 1:3  And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.  God didn’t have to get up off the throne to create light, God didn’t have to use His hands to make light, God just simple spoke and light was there.

Notice that light was created instantly! God said, Let there be light: and there was light. There was no waiting around for it to happen, nothing had to be figured out or placed in order. The words came out of God’s mouth and instantly there was light, the very second God said it, it happened. Now that is Power!

Next let’s go to God speaking to Noah in Genesis 6:17  And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. God says to Noah, I’m going to flood the whole earth to cast judgment on the evilness of man.

Genesis 7:4  For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth. God tells Noah that He is going to make this flood happen very soon.

Just think of all the power it would take to cause the entire earth to flood and not just flood but everything thing, every single thing was covered with water; the Bible says the water level was 15 cubits above the mountains.

The tallest mountain in the world today is Mount Everest (Depending on the way it is measured) at 29,029 feet about sea level, God had the power to cover this entire mountain, completely, with water, and just for fun He added another 20 feet or so on top of it. Now, That is Power!

God had the Power to create the world, and God had the Power to judge the wicked BUT God also has the Power to SAVE!

Isaiah 43:1  But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. 

God had the Power and used His Power to create us and God says He has the Power to redeem us!

Isaiah 43:3  For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour:

God has the Power to Save us! God is the only one that has the Power to save.

Ephesians 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 

Romans 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;

We can not save ourselves, God has the Power to save and He freely gives salvation to anyone that believes and asks.

Romans 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 

That is God’s power! The power to save us! Praise God for His Power!

But God’s Power doesn’t stop at salvation, God has the Power to guide us, to help us, to protect us, to use us. We need God’s Power daily to be able to remain faithful to serving Him. So, how do we gain access to this power? The answer is simple…

PRAYER!

Prayer gives us access to God’s amazing Power!

Think about all the power sitting behind a dam, now, the first dam I think of is The Hoover Dam…

The Hoover Dam is 726 feet high and 1,244 feet long at the crest. It contains 4,400,000 cubic yards of concrete. There is 326,000 gallons of water sitting behind it. There is 45,000 pounds per square foot of pressure or power behind this dam

Think about all that power that is behind this dam? What would happen if this power was set free? It would be a huge deal!!!

This is the picture I want you to get when we talk about the power of prayer! God’s power is sitting behind a dam and we can set all of God’s power free just by spending time with God in prayer! We can access this power, God’s power, through prayer!

We have access to the Power that we need to live right.

We have access to the Power that we need to get pass any temptation.

We have access to the Power that we need to get through the hardships of life.

We have access to the Power that we need to server the Lord.

We have access to the Power that we need to reach some lost soul with the Gospel.

We have access to the Power that we need to turn back to God when we wander away.

God has all Power! We have access to this power, we just need to hit our knees and pray!
