SOLT Podcast E22 – Unplugged

Plug with text Unplugged

This episode is a message that I preached in my church in August of 2022. The focus is on what we are plugged into and what we should be plugged into.

What are we plugged into?

Another way to say this is… what are we connected to? We also need to be aware of how we get connected to something.

  • Our Eyes
  • Our Ears
  • Our Presence
  • Our Finances

To know what we are plugged into or connected to we need to pay attention to what our eyes see, what our ears hear, where we go and what we spend our money on. All of those things are what we are connected to or plugged into.

What you plug into is what you become.

What goes in, must come out

We are like a sponge, if you dip a sponge in dirty muddy water, then pull it out. What will come out of the sponge when we squeeze it? Muddy water, dirt. What if we put the sponge in clean water? Clean water will come out.

Think of our minds and hearts like sponges, because they take in all the stuff we see, hear and are around and if you squeeze them the same will come out of them.

You cannot expect bible verses to come out of us if we have never seen or heard bible verses. You have to actually put them in your mind and your heart for them to be able to come back out.

If we put in sin, sin with our eyes, or we listen to wicked things or we go to sinful places… what will come out of us?

What the thing we plug into believe/support.

Does it matter what the things that we plug in to believe and support?

Short answer, YES!

Psalm 26:1-6 – We have evidence here to show us the importance of what we associate with and that we need to make sure these associations are pure and right and following God’s will.

The verse says “Examine” me and “judge me,” this shows we are accountable for what we take part in, in any manner. It also says “I will not sit with the wicked, I wash my hands” showing us that we need stay away from anything God doesn’t want us to be a part of.

We cannot associate with unbelievers, sinners, with people not following God’s word. They will bring us down.

This doesn’t mean we can’t try to tell these people about Jesus and teach them the truth of God’s word, we just can not be plugged into these kinds of people or companies.

How much responsibility do we have in finding out what these companies and people believe?

1 Cor 4:1-2  Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

This passage is talking about being accounted for. It goes on to talk about being judged.

In everything we do we must be accounted for, that doesn’t mean that we need to go around keeping tabs on each other but we should live our life as if someone IS walking around keeping tabs on US.

We are responsible for everything we do; this includes what we watch, hear, participate in and support with our money. If we go to a store and buy something there, we are supporting whatever causes they are supporting. If they are supporting something that goes against the Word of God, then we are supporting that as well.

Where should I draw the line?

Answer – Exactly where God says to.

We must avoid everything God tells us to avoid.

There are obvious areas of sin that we probably don’t have to list today, we know what sin is and that we need to avoid it.

There are also some areas that maybe not all Christians agree on but there is one rule of God that helps define the line perfectly clear for us…

1 Thes 5:22  Abstain from all appearance of evil

It really is that simple. If it even appears to be evil then we need to stay away from it. That is where the line is.

If we desire to please God we will stay far away from anything that even resembles sin.

We should not plug into anything that even resembles sin.

What Christians should be plugged into

  • We need to fully commit ourself and plug into God
  • We need to fully commit ourself and plug into God’s Word
  • We need to fully commit ourself and plug into prayer
  • We need to fully commit ourself and plug into Serving the Lord

Jesus said in Matt 5:16  Let your light so shine before men,. We need to plug into God and let the light shine so that others can come to Christ!
