SOTL Podcast – E18 – Overwhelmed

This episode might not go in the direction you are thinking. This thought has come to me over the last few months and it’s something that is special to me.

Have you ever been overwhelmed?

I am sure we can all say yes to this question. We all have had times of feeling overwhelmed.

We tend to focus on the overwhelming parts of our life that are difficult, that we don’t know if we can get through it. This is somewhat natural because these moments in life are very impactful at that time and usually your entire life after that moment as well.

Think of David when Bathsheba gives birth to their child and the child is very sick and we read in 2 Sam 12:16 David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth. David was overwhelmed. David couldn’t even get off the ground at this moment. That is how much it affected him right then, that is how much impact it had on him.

This is what most people think of when we think of being overwhelmed, I’m actually going in a different direction with this message today but before I get there, I want to say one last thing about this first kind of feeling overwhelmed because maybe you are there, maybe you feel this kind of overwhelmed by the things in your life right now. I have one things to say that I hope is helpful to you.

When life seems too difficult to move on, when you feel like David and cannot get yourself off the ground remember the words of David in Psalms 22:19, he says, But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.

If you call on God, if you drawl close to God, if you let God… God will be your strength, God will help you, God will comfort you, God will be with you… If you find yourself overwhelmed by something or even many things in your life, rely on God and you will make it through.

Now like I said this is what most people think of when I talk about the topic of being overwhelmed but I want to focus on this word from a different angle.

The reason for this is that I feel overwhelmed right now! I almost feel like I can’t handle anymore at this moment… what I am talking about is being overwhelm by the love and blessings from God!

God has blessed me and my church so much these last weeks and months. God more than doubled our VBS attendance this year, God saved 2 souls during VBS, God have added 5 members to our church in the last few weeks, God has been showing us that He is very much in and leading the things going on with our church and there are so many more.

God has also been blessing me and my family as well!

God is so Good! God has taken care of us! God is continuing to bless us! I am overwhelmed! But it is a good overwhelmed! I am ok with this overwhelmed but it does take me to the ground like the first overwhelmed we talked about but in this case I’m on my knees praising and worshiping and thanking God for all that He has done for us!

Psalms 115:12-15 The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron. He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great. The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children. Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth.

God knows us, God has us on His mind, In John chapter 10 Jesus says He knows His own, we are His, God knows us.

Not only does God know us but God wants to take care of us. Matt 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Again, we have Jesus speaking here and He says that God desires to give us good things. God wants to know us; God thinks about us and God wants to take care of us and God wants to bless us!

I think of Job also, and not all that Job went through, but I think of the last chapter of the book of Job when God is blessing Job. It says in Job 42:12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and it goes on to list more blessing.

This is how I feel right now. I feel like the God of all creation is blessing and it is just so much! It makes me want to fall to my knees and thank God and it makes me want to shout to the world how great God is!

Now, I have one last point I want to make about me being overwhelmed by God’s blessing… I am not special. It has nothing to do with me at all. God isn’t blessing because I am such a great person, God is blessing because HE is so great! It is not me, it its God.

I say this to say, God wants to care for you too, God wants to know you too, God wants to give you good things too, God wants to bless you too! God wants to take care of His children, all of His children.

If you desire to receive blessings from God, first you need to be a child of God, You just need to accept Jesus as your personal Saviour, as payment for you sins, then you need to have a close relationship with God, Drawl nigh to God and He will drawl nigh to you.

Being a child of God will not make your life perfect here on earth. I am not saying you will be rich or never want for anything. I am not preaching prosperity I am just preaching out of my own experiences.

God has taken care of me and my family and my church. God has blessed us so much and I desire this for you as well.

I am overwhelmed by the love and blessings of God and I love it! I desire this feeling of being overwhelmed for you and your family and your church also!
