This short devotion is focused on our willingness to serve the Lord. Will we be dedicated to serving the Lord?
From this Episode:
Numbers 32:12 – Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.
This verse starts off with an interesting word, that is… SAVE which means Except in this verse. I want to focus in on the fact that there was an exception in this verse, and would we be the exception now?
So, the 12 were sent out to spy out the land of Canaan. If you remember the story, the 12 went and seen the giants that lived in the land. 10 of them immediately started saying that there is no way they could beat these giants and they should NOT take the land that God gave them.
So, 10 of them did not “Wholly follow the LORD”. This seems terrible right? How could these leaders of the children of Israel not follow the Lord? Unfortunately, it happens all the time though. There are many reasons for this.
Let’s compare their reasons to how we respond to things God asks us to do today.
- They were scared. They let fear control their reaction and actions. We do this all the time too. When God asks us to teach a SS Class, sing in front of people, preach or witness to a lost soul. Way too often we let the fear that we feel control our actions and we choose not to do what God has asked us to do.
- The 10 listened and feed off each other. We influence the people around us all the time. We can either influence them to do good and follow the Lord or we can influence them to stray away from the Lord.
- They didn’t want to take responsibility for the ones they were over. We do this when not wanting to answer the call to preach or be a spiritual leader in a church. Sometimes we mean well and don’t want to let people down but in doing this we are letting God down.
God is still calling people to serve Him and work for Him in all kinds of positions, whether it be preaching, pastoring, teaching, running a bus route, soul winning, singing or anything, God is calling people!
Are we listening? Will we obey? Will we say YES LORD? Will we be a Caleb and Joshua? Will we be the exception or will we be the 10?
God is waiting to work through us, all we have to do is say yes and listen to Him!
Let’s determine to be the Caleb and Joshua!
