We have established…
1. Joshua was giving final advice to the children of Israel before his death.
2. We are to reverently fear God as our perfect Creator.
3. If you are a born again believer you should choose to be a servant of the Lord.
The verse continues to tell us to “put away the gods”. This is a little “g” gods. This is false gods that was wrongfully worshiped.
Now you might think we don’t serve false gods anymore. Well, I disagree. Anything we put before God has become our “gods”. If we go to a sporting event and miss church that is our god. If we sit on social media for 2 hours a day and only give God 10 minutes of our time then social media is our god.
Anything we chose over God has become our god. We need to be careful to put God in the right place, first, all the time!
The verse ends with reminding us to choose to be a servant of the Lord. We need to continue to serve the Lord. This may be an unpopular statement but there is never an ok time to stop serving the Lord. There is always a way to keep serving Him. You cannot be pleasing to the Lord and try to “retire” from serving the Lord.
